Maybe you've always wanted to play in a recorder orchestra but have never had the opportunity. Maybe you already play in one or more recorder orchestras but would like to experience playing in a different section or simply spend a whole weekend exploring the extensive repertoire for this exciting ensemble.
Following the overwhemingly positive response to the Orchestra Weekend which took place last year, recorders@plymouth are hosting another weekend event again with Helen Hooker as the principal conductor. The 2008 weekend will be held at the stunning location of Halsway Manor, offering fully residential facilities.
This weekend offers both the novice and the experienced orchestral player the opportunity for intensive study under the baton of one of this country's finest recorder orchestral conductors: Helen Hooker. Steve Marshall, one of the world's leading recorder composers, will tutor sessions providing a contrast to Helen's orchestral repertoire.
The recorder orchestra will comprise of eleven sections: Sopranino, Descant 1 and 2, Treble 1 and 2, Tenor 1 and 2, Bass 1 and 2, Great Bass and Contra Bass. Each section of the orchestra will be led by a strong player with extensive orchestral experience to give confidence to novice orchestral players. Players of all abilities are welcome - if you can keep up in recorders@plymouth or SRP meetings you will enjoy this weekend.
The closing date for enrolment is 10th October 2008. Shortly after this date applicants will be sent further details about the weekend including a map of the venue and confirmation of the orchestral section in which they will be playing. Players will play in their allocated section for all of the orchestral playing sessions with Helen Hooker and are free to choose to play different recorders in the sessions tutored by Steve Marshall. Players are asked to specify which instruments they would prefer to play on the enrolment form.
All music will be provided for the weekend.
A brochure for containing full information about
the course may also be downloaded from this page. There are two versions,
both in PDF format;
A) is designed to be read page by page from the computer
or to give a larger format for printing.
B) is designed for printing as a booklet, two sheets to a page using manual,
short-edge or 'tumble' duplexing. This also reduces paper usage.
Both versions contain application forms for the weekend.
