recorders@plymouth

Welcome to the website of recorders@plymouth.

Recorders@plymouth is a playing group for all recorder players, particularly in and around Plymouth UK.

Originally forming in 2002 as a branch of the SRP, we are now an independent group, members of Making Music (the National Federation of Music Societies). We have a full programme of recorder playing days planned throughout 2007 and 2008, usually have around twenty players and a full range of instruments from Sopranino to Contra-Bass. Players of all ages and levels are always welcomed.

2008 - 2009 programme

Meetings are held on the first Saturday of each month, either for a full day or the afternoon only. Visitors are always welcome.

Playing days run from 10:30 to 12:45, then from 14:00 to 16:15 with players freely attending morning, afternoon or for the whole day as they desire. When there is only an afternoon session, the sessions run from 14:00 to 16:45. There is usually a mid morning and mid-afternoon break of around 15 minutes at the discretion of the conductor.

Bring your own refreshments for lunchtime, morning and afternoon breaks; there is a supermarket within walking distance if you forget. We also have access to basic kitchen facilities including a kettle; tea and coffee is provided.

Don't forget your music stand!

News

The Recorder Orchestra Weekend at Halsway Manor on 31st October to 2nd November went down a storm. Halsway Manor proved an excellent location, easy to find yet remote enough for total peace and quiet, with good heating including the welcome of open fires, comfortable rooms, fine catering and a perfect size for us as a single group. Tuition from Helen Hooker and Steve Marshall was every bit as good as expected, with a great range of music played including Steve's 'Halsway Chorale and Funk' especially composed for the occasion.
We would like to run another weekend at Halsway Manor in the 2009/10 season. Details will be posted nearer to the time. If you'd like to be kept informed, please let Jan Epps have your details as below.

We're leaving information about the 2008 Recorder Orchestra Weekend on the website for the time being. Follow this link, also Halsway Manor's website is highly recommended to give you an idea of this superb venue.

Other News

Jan Epps holds regular informal recorder playing sessions at her house on Thursday evenings. She would be very pleased if anyone else would like to join in. All genres of music are tried at least once! If you'd like to know more her contact details are at the bottom of this page.
